Easy on the arm!

As a general contractor I have several compressors. At least 90% of the time I grab an Emglo because they do everything I need except texturing. But I've grown fond of this little Senco WHEN IT IS USED PROPERLY! That means if I have a small trim project or a VERY small framing project it does the job, and both takes up less room and is a lot easier to pack around. It'll drive 3" framing nails no problem...when the tank is topped off, but the last couple nails before the compressor cycles always need to be hammer finished. Same is true for 15 or 18 gauge finish nails. When the tank is just about to cycle the nails don't completely set. My workers love the Senco...much to my chagrin. For one, it's light, and second...it takes FOREVER to refill (relatively speaking) and my guys love to stand there with their thumbs you know where taking a break every 10 to 15 nails or so! So if used for small jobs...or trim where you nail one piece at a time while cutting, well then it's a champ. But if you tend to cut trim for an entire room, then want to shoot it on quick...this Senco will frustrate you no end. You end up hand nail setting too many nails, or else you have to stop frequently, unhook the air hose, drain a little air from the tank until it cycles, then wait for the darn thing to fill. If you use it right... 5 stars. If you use it as your go to compressor... 2.5 stars tops. I hope this helps!
nifty little trim compressor

For my applications of easy carry in and out, it's been terrific for lightweight 18ga. finishing.

On a small renovation project yesterday, 4 doors jambs and trim were easy (1" to 2" 18/16ga brads) The very least of my problems was waiting for the little Senco to catch up. Been using it for about 5 months, shot about 10,000 brads. So far it's been flawless.

Very low noise as compressors go, and neat little rubber suction feet that keep it from skidding around and marring up a nice floor.

The Quietest Small Air Compressor

Review Date: October 8, 2005

I purchased this model based on web search results showing it to be the quietest (69dB) small (1 CFM) air compressor on the market, and generally high satisfaction of other owners. It is indeed very quiet, well made, and lightweight.

I've mounted this compressor in an acoustic chamber that I designed to further reduce the noise, and it is now as quiet as the "super silent" compressors used for indoor craftwork (airbrushing) that cost $600 to $1000 (49dB). At this further muffled sound level, I can operate the unit all day long sitting next to me without discomfort.

I highly recommend this model for indoor craft work. I've used mine for 40 to 50 hours and had no troubles, but feel this unit will hold up for a long time. I will use this in my home for a few hours per day.
nice and lite

I bought this nice little compressor along w/ the senco pinner. Although not for heavy duty continuous work; it works great for me installing kitchens and general trim work. It runs for a long time to come up to pressure but it is very lightweight and when it is running, it's really quite quiet. I have three other compressors and when I don't want to disturb the customers; this quiet little compressor does the trick!
A great, quiet compressor for small tasks.

Reviewer: Pauline Kubisova,
We purchased this compressor because we use quite a few cans of compressed air around our place and we decided to look for a more economical alternative. A small, portable compressor seemed to be just the thing for our small tasks around the apartment.

First we bought a Porter Cable 2HP, 6 gallon pancake compressor from Amazon.com. It was a little on the heavy side - but still portable. The first time we turned it on in our apartment, the sound was literally deafening! Even running the Porter Cable compressor by itself in a completely closed room was unbelievably loud - and we were standing outside of that room (with the door closed). The noise that compressor made was completely unacceptable to us (and our neighbors, I'm sure), and clearly was designed for heavier duty than what we needed.

I read several reviews on the Senco 1/2 HP, 1 gallon compressor and decided to give it a try - even though the tank capacity seemed a bit small and 1/2 HP wasn't very powerful.

I braced myself the first time I turned the compressor on for the loud noise that was sure to follow. What a surprise it was to hear this compressor run whisper quiet! Even with hardwood floors where sound is usually amplified, the compressor was so quiet that it was possible to carry on a normal conversation while it was running. In contrast, we tried shouting over the noise the Porter Cable compressor and still couldn't hear each other. On top of that, this compressor weighs a mere 20 pounds and has a very convenient carrying handle solidly attached to the compressor. Five stars for the design and the ultra-low noise factor.

Being that the air tank is quite small, the compressor kicks on frequently during air use. For our basic purpose of canned air replacement, this compressor works beautifully. I've read that it can be used with some pneumatic tools (like brad nailers) but I don't think this would be the right compressor for more than light usage because the tank empties rapidly and the compressor motor has to kick on frequently to refill the small tank. Still, the compressor is remarkably quiet.

For small compressed air tasks especially where portability is desired. The lightweight of this unit makes it a joy to carry anywhere you might want compressed air. If you have big projects that require a constant supply of air - like running brad nailers and the like - I wouldn't recommend this compressor. If you want a compressor that is quiet enough to use inside your house, light enough to carry up a ladder, has air pressure adjustment up to 125+ psi - all at a price that is easy on the wallet, then I don't see how you can best this compressor.

Five Stars all the way for this very capable and versatile compressor!
